Nutrome is shorthand for Nutrigenomics (Nutrition + Genetics).

We create genetic-based precision nutrition plans, also known as "Wellness Blueprints." These customized meal plans lay out everything needed to eat to reach wellness goals such as stimulating weight loss, improving gut health, and enchancing energy levels.

After working with hundreds of clients, we found ourselves conveying the same foundational message over and over. That message is simple: Cook! Or, broadly explained, the most important factor in achieving any wellness goal is to eat healthy. Unfortunately, even if you have the perfect nutrition plan, if you don't follow through on it, you won't achieve your goal. It is essential to cook or prepare most of your meals.

Our clients inspired us to create a more comprehensive system that not only taught them how to cook, but also provided the accountability and support to ensure their long-term success.

The NuBook

(as featured in the Meal Prep Master Class & Nutrome's Nutrition Academy)

You’ve never seen a nutrition resource like this. It is far more than a cookbook, it’s a meal planning system, and it will give you your life back.

As we near the end of the “fad diet” era it comes as no surprise that the key to vibrant health is wholesome nutrition. Fast food is out. Processed meals and microwave dinners are not - cannot - be the way out of our national health crisis. The concept of Meal Prepping seems to be the golden ticket to cooking and enjoying nutritious meals at home. But to those of us raised on shake and bake dinners, meal prepping is no small task.

How are we to manage combing through infinite recipes? Setting aside precious hours sifting through cookbooks, magazines, and the worst yet - lengthy blogs, booby trapped with ads all for a single, over complicated, poorly written recipe. After tracking down enough recipes to get us through the week, we are left cross referencing all this information with our pantries in order to write a shopping list.

How are we to ensure that once we’ve done all the planning, shopping, and cooking, that these meals are actually going to taste good? Are we to just know which recipes are compatible? How do we know how much to cook? How do we know if it’s even healthy?

After all that effort - are we really expected to repeat this process week after week? Is that really what it takes to be healthy?

Here to now, the antidote has been batch-cooking. Don’t get me wrong, there is a time and a place for batch-cooked meals such as a good lasagna or pot of chili. But when it’s heated up (or not) meal after meal, day after day, week after week - it starts to get old - really old - unpalatable even. And this is when after all our good intentions we find ourselves once again in the drive-thru line, desperate to escape the mundane.

Then comes the antidote to the antidote - batch-prepping. This style is known to many as the “chicken, rice, and broccoli diet”. Baked chicken breast, steamed broccoli, and rice all perfectly pre-portioned in grab and go containers stacked neatly in the fridge. By day two this bland meal is even more flavorless, textureless, and unappetizing than it was on day one. By day three Chipotle calls, and by the time cheat day rolls around you feel completely out of control consuming any burger, chicken wing, or nacho platter that crosses your path.

But what if I told you, you can enjoy wings, burgers, and nachos - as well as Thai, Greek, or Italian on any idle afternoon? What if it required no research, no piece-mealing, and hardly any effort apart from an efficient 1-2 hour weekly meal prepping session?

My friend, allow me to introduce you to NuBook. A new kind of cookbook and meal prepping system for a new generation. This book was engineered by functional nutritionists and inspired by You.

NuBook is split into ten sections known as NuBowls. Each NuBowl celebrates a different flavor profile (ex. Tex Mex, Asian fusion, Italian, Poke, etc.) Each section hosts a selection of toppings - veggies, proteins, sauces and so on, accompanied by compatible recipes designed to build on each other. Each bowl is designed to take 1-2 hours to prepare. Once the recipes are prepped and stored in airtight glass containers, toppings can be mixed and matched throughout the week.

No matter which simple recipes you decide to prep, your bowl is going to provide the restaurant quality you desire.

NuBook establishes variety and therefore sustainability. Using the same basic strategy, you can meal prep week after week, switching up the flavors every time so that you always feel excited about your next meal.

About Charlotte Bear

Born a collicky baby, I pretty much struggled with digestive issues my whole life. By the time I reached young adulthood I was anxious, depressed, bloated, inflamed, fatigued, and overweight. I'll never forget the bitter, hopeless tears as I drove home from the doctor - I had gone in for chronic stomach pain. In the office they had me lift up my shirt so they could "look" at my stomach.

They told me I had gained 20 pounds since my last checkup. They told me to eat less and exercise more, and sent me on my way with a prescription for an SSRI.

They seemed to have no idea just how deeply connected these symptoms were and I was not being treated as a whole person, but rather a fragmented, broken human which is indeed how I felt.

Fast forward three years and a masters degree in functional nutrition and my body felt unrecognizable to me in the best possible way. I had lost 40 pounds but shedding the weight of prescriptions, brain fog , bloating, inflammation, fatigue, and physical pain is what really made me feel light. While it felt like a miracle, it did not happen overnight. It did not happen after a diet, a program, a surgery, treatment, supplement, or detox. What it took was a deep understanding of how my body works, clear direction for what my body needs, and the culinary skills needed to integrate this understanding into my lifestyle.

I believe true health starts in the kitchen. My personal and professional philosophy is to help you find your farmers, your community, and your roots -- and there you will find your health.

As a health-supportive chef, gardener, and healthy-living expert, I believe food is medicine and that, given the right conditions, our bodies have the remarkable ability to heal themselves.

I wholeheartedly believe that the food we eat determines our health outcome. Eating whole foods that are grown and cooked with intention not only gives us a powerful and enjoyable experience, it also has a tremendous impact on lowering levels of cellular inflammation -- the underlying cause of the chronic diseases that plague our society.

I believe that, when we support our digestion and microbiome that exists both in our gut and our soil, we elevate our health.

I received my master’s degree in functional nutrition from the National University of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon, to compliment my skills as a health-supportive chef. I strive to help my community simplify their cooking routines, locate (or grow!) nutrient-dense ingredients, and adopt a more mindful, sustainable lifestyle in order to achieve their ultimate health goals!

My purpose in life is to completely understand how to be healthy and teach others how to do the same.

With Nutrome, my wife Charlotte and I have paired up to make it as easy as possible for you to efficiently develop the understanding and skills needed to eat well so that you can have the time to truly enjoy the rest of your life.

I have found the #1 common denominator in the health & wellness field is food. If you focus on your relationship with food, all other areas of healthy & wellness tend to fall into place, and you will be provided the energy to excel in other areas of your life.

Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to share what I have learned with you. I am forever grateful for being given the chance to teach and learn from you.

Sincerely,

Alex

More About Nutrome

How was the Nutrome System Developed?

The Nutrome System was developed by Charlotte and I (Alexander Bear) between 2019 and 2023.

The "beta" version system was unintentionally developed by Charlotte for a wilderness therapy program in western North Carolina. She worked as a Wellness Coordinator and Kitchen Manager to help struggling young adults learn culinary skills. A confluence of factors inspired Charlotte to develop very simple recipes that were easy to cook but challenging enough to be fun for the students she was teaching. And, of course, as she interacted with the students daily, she had to make sure they tasted really good!

After Charlotte and I moved on from working at the wilderness program, I was recruiting clients for Nutrome. After doing market research, I learned that potential customers really loved the idea of having a genetics-based personalized nutrition program created for them. I sold these but found there was a really important ingredient missing to make sure my clients would succeed long-term. This was having more support around implementing the nutrition plan, aka making sure the clients were able to cook.

After taking a pause from Nutrome, I started working as a health coach for Optum. During that time, I coached thousands of veterans, many of whom were busy young professionals. They told me over and over again the same common problems they faced when trying to cook or meal prep for themselves consistently. I brought what I learned back to Charlotte and she helped tweak the recipes and system a bit to match the feedback. I also still had a few clients I was working with through Nutrome who further inspired us to create even more recipes (i.e. full meals and snacks that could be made in a few minutes).

Essentially, the Nutrome System was built by taking feedback from thousands of people who were struggling to eat healthy consistently. We refined and refined until we built something we felt would really address ALL of the challenges we had been presented with over the years.

How is the Nutrome System different than other meal prepping programs or services?

  •  Our system does not require you to do anything extraordinary or exceedingly difficult. We don’t ask you to cut out a bunch of food groups, stop eating sugar, etc… It is designed around being sustainable long-term.
  • We address lack of variation in the diet when it comes to meal prepping. Instead of eating the same thing day after day during the week, we use a “Mix & Match” method where you prep the same ingredients but use them in different ways during the week.
  • Everything tastes really good! We encourage the use of a simple spice blend that can be made in 5 minutes and liberal use of sauces. We make sure eating is an enjoyable experience every time.
  • We address what to do in between your meal-prepped meals with simple snack, breakfast, and dessert options. This way, if you want, you can depend on 100% of your meals made by yourself without extraordinary effort. (You can still go out to eat when you want, but not because you have to. Trust us, we still go out to eat lol!)
  • We empower you to learn how to cook by presenting lessons in a stepwise fashion that allows your skills to progress over time. By the end of our program, if you stick with it, you will be as good (if not better) than us at meal prepping. It will actually be easier for you and save you time to cook for yourself v. getting fast food or relying on a meal delivery service.
  • We built a community around meal prepping so that you have the support you need to succeed.
  • Our program was built by two functional nutritionists with master’s degree and a collective 20+ years of experience working for some of the best and unique companies teaching all kinds of audiences how to cook and reach their wellness goals. Our system is built on the feedback from previous clients/customers to directly address the challenges we have heard throughout our careers. We didn’t just make up a trendy diet, we developed a system that sincerely addresses the many difficulties that arise when trying to meal prep each week and sustain healthy eating habits long-term.
  • We care that you succeed. It means the world to us that you are making the effort to learn how to cook. Our shared mission is to help heal the grid through food. That means teaching others how to cook, how to source food sustainably, how to grow food, remembering how to eat mindfully and sharing the eating experience with others. Your success fulfills us and we thank you so much for being a member of our community.
